There can be many different ways to teach ”what is a bed and chair” in a Chinese language class. The simple and straightforward way is to let the learners know what is a bed and chair through translation or illustration without any further info and explanation. That is done.
In this lecture, I attempt to demonstrate how to integrate socio-cultural-historical knowledge into vocabulary introduction, sometimes philosophically, with an aim at showing an innovative instructive practice of optimizing the top-down approach.
